Donnie Marbut Biography
Donnie Marbut is one of the most popular and richest Baseball Player who was born on February 18, 1974 in Aberdeen, Washington, United States. After WSU’s post-season appearances in 2009 and 2010 and 2010, when the Cougars placed second and third within the Pac-10 respectively, Marbut believed the time was the right time to allow Washington State to invest in baseball facilities to be able to compete against other programs within the Pacific-10 Conference and around the Pacific Northwest and he personally raised $3 million pledges to build a top-of-the-line clubhouse. Construction of the facility, which is estimated at $10 million will begin in the year 2019. After the 2010 season, Washington State Athletic Director Bill Moos extended Marbut’s contract declaring “During his tenure as WSU’s head coach the program has improved each year on the field and in the classroom. He has embraced the Cougars’ storied history by reconnecting with former players and bringing them back into the program while his vision and passion for the future cannot be matched. We have one of the best coaches in the country and this contract reflects the University’s commitment and belief that continued success is on the horizon.”
Prior to the season of 2004, Marbut was an assistant coach for Washington State under fourth-year head coach Tim Mooney, where his activities with the infielders produced the school record of .971671 fielding percentage as well as the first record of winning in the history of WSU’s Cougars after 1998. After only the one year as an assistant coach, Marbut became the head coach of WSU following the forced resignation of Mooney in the middle of May 2004. At the time, he had become among the most youthful head coaches of the Pacific-10 Conference, at 30 years old. Under the guidance of Marbut as the head coach Washington State won more than 300 games and produced 23 draft picks from major leagues and significantly increased a shaky Academic Progress Rate.
Marbut started his coaching career to Washington in 1998, as an assistant coach at Capital High School in Olympia and helped lead his Cougars into the state 3A championship. He was then an assistant coach at Bellevue Community College, which was crowned conference champion in 1999. After that, Marbut returned to Edmonds Community College as its head coach for four seasons . He received conference coach of award twice, as well as Division coach of the Year three times. Marbut’s record in Edmonds is 152-38 (.800) which included an all-time record of 43 wins in 2003. Marbut was in the news after an article in the Seattle Times article stated Marbut added academics to his resume during his time playing at Edmonds CC, and Washington State where he was the coach when the story was published and came out to defend his position.
On February 17, 2016, Marbut joined the Pac-12 Network as a baseball analyst, while also serving as a scout for the Houston Astros. On March 31, 2016, Marbut became the President of the West Coast League.
