Paul Gascoigne Biography

Paul Gascoigne is one of the most popular and richest Soccer Player who was born on May 27, 1967 in Dunston, England, United Kingdom. He was on the UK show on daytime, “Loose Women,” alongside He appeared on the UK daytime show, “Loose Women,” with Katie Price and other presenters, to talk about his struggles with substance abuse. and other presenters to talk about his battle with addiction to drugs.

Paul John Gascoigne (/ˈ ɡ æ s k ɔɪ n / , born 27 May 1967) is an English former professional football player and manager. He is also known by his nickname, Gazza. He earned 57 caps during his England career. The National Football Museum stated that he is “widely recognised as the most naturally talented English footballer of his generation”.

At the age of 18 Gascoigne signed a two-year £120 a week contract at Newcastle, with the club also having a further two-year option clause. Though Gascoigne has written his first contract was around £120 a week, Charlton claims Gascoigne’s first contract was roughly £200 per week. Charlton highlights that this money for a teenage footballer in the mid-1980s was very good. One worry Charlton had about Gascoigne was Gascoigne’s generosity. Charlton noted Gascoigne was the type of lad who was “liable to buy drinks all round.” Joe Allon explained Gascoigne could be incredibly generous, he’d give money away to people he believed needed it more than himself, leaving himself broke. Lee Clark described how Gascoigne’s generosity was not just with money. It was also with his actions. Clark explained how he was playing in a youth international match at Wembley stadium. This match was before an England International match that Gascoigne was involved in. Before the kick-off Clark had learned the last train was at 9:30 pm. This meant his father could not make it home. He explained this to Gascoigne. Gascoigne told Clark not to worry and that he would bring him home. After Gascoigne’s game, Gascoigne took Clark Snr. home to Newcastle with him. Clark explained how Gascoigne did not just do this type of thing for him, he did it for every player too. Through noting Gascoigne’s generous personality, Charlton arranged that around half of Gascoigne’s wage be paid into a bank account for him to collect in a lump sum at the end of his first contract.

He was married to his fiancee Sheryl in 1999, after six years of being together. The couple divorced less than three years after. The couple had 3 children: Bianca, Regan, and Mason.

He was a lapsed addict following retirement, and he enrolled in an addiction treatment center in Arizona to help save his life.

Gascoigne was born in Gateshead, County Durham, on 27 May 1967. His father, John (1946–2018), was a hod carrier, and his mother, Carol, worked in a factory. He was named Paul John Gascoigne in tribute to Paul McCartney and John Lennon of the Beatles.

Gascoigne captained Newcastle United’s youth team to the FA Youth Cup in the 1984–85 season, and scored twice in the 4–1 victory over Watford in the final at Vicarage Road. The youth team included players like Joe Allon, Gary Kelly, Kevin Scott, Paul Stephenson, Ian Bogie, Brian Tinnion and Jeff Wrightson all who made a professional career in the game, either at Newcastle or elsewhere. On the run Newcastle beat Everton, Man City, Leeds United, Coventry City and Birmingham City, scoring 20 goals and conceding 3. They then met Watford in the final. In the first leg of the final they drew 0–0. Allon states that Newcastle were unusually poor in the first leg, but in the second leg Newcastle smashed them, with Gascoigne being instrumental as the conductor. In the match Gascoigne nutmegged a Watford player. The lad turned around and Gascoigne megged him again… For this the Newcastle youth coach Jimmy Nelson, shouted: “Behave yourself!” Gascoigne then demonstrated his composure and timing and, whilst on the ball, whilst under pressure from some pressing, with a second to spare, he smiled and winked back at the coaching staff who had just shouted at him. Nelson then remembers, after the smile and wink, Gascoigne struck a 50-yard pass onto the feet of Joe Allon. Nelson believes with this pass, Joe Allon then went on to score. It was in the second leg that Charlton also realised Newcastle had a player. Gascoigne first goal in the match was a header, his second goal was the goal that impressed Charlton and his assistant Maurice Setters. Charlton described the goal as a goal you’d only see once in a lifetime. After he scored the goal Charlton said to Setters, “If you live to be a hundred, Maurice, you’ll never see a better goal than that.”

At the beginning of the 1984–85 season Gascoigne was warned by Charlton about his junk food. He was given 2 weeks to lose the weight. Gascoigne then trained for ten days wrapped in a black bag to lose his excess weight. Not long after though, Gascoigne would win the captaincy of the youth team; and at the end of the season Gascoigne, along with his teammates, would ironically be fed a burger on the M1 by Jack Charlton after winning FA Youth Cup Final at Watford. His teammate and friend Joe Allon claims it was probably the 1984–85 season that made Gascoigne “Gazza”, and also states the 1984–85 season was the season that put him onto the road to Italia 90, and on to becoming, in his opinion, the best player in the world.

Paul Ferris was a Northern Irish footballer, later a physiotherapist, lawyer and businessman, who was scouted by Newcastle and who would sign for Newcastle United at the age of sixteen in the 1980s, later, after receiving his qualifications, he would be the assistant physiotherapist of the club. He recalls playing in a trial match on Tyneside with Gascoigne and then, after the game, and inside the clubhouse, meeting the fourteen-year-old Gascoigne for the first time… In his autobiography, Ferris recalls giving the ball to Gascoigne for a one-two, which if Gascoigne had returned the ball would have put him one on one with the goalkeeper. Instead Ferris noted Gascoigne put his foot on the ball, he then stared straight at Ferris and shouted “Fuck off. If you don’t pass to me then I’m not passing to you.” The fourteen-year-old Gascoigne then, instead of giving Ferris the through ball, turned and passed the ball in the opposite direction. Ferris claims he had never experienced this type of testiness on any football pitch. Ferris also notes Gascoigne’s ire was probably in reference to an earlier goal Ferris scored whereby Ferris, instead of passing to Gascoigne, used Gascoigne as a decoy to go past a defender and to go on and score a goal… After the match Ferris went to confront the aggrieved Gascoigne in the clubhouse. When he went over to confront Gascoigne, he noted Gascoigne was ‘holding court and telling stories,’ with his teammates, and how the smiling Gascoigne then held his hand out and said, “Sorry about before, mate. I was just a bit pissed off when you didn’t pass to us the first time. No hard feelings, man. You played really well. Have me seat and I’ll grab another one. What’s your name again, mate?” The two then became friends. Ferris, then observed Gascoigne and the language from him and his teammates alongside the laughter. He noted the use of the words, ‘howay, hadaway, kets, and sentences with phrases in them like ‘pass the bullets man…,’ ‘who’s nicked me ket?,’ ‘hadaway and shite.’ He noted how ‘howay’ meant many things like, ‘come here’, ‘fuck off’, ‘I don’t believe you’, ‘you’re joking.’ He noted how all the teammates spoke in plurals, how ‘us’ replaced ‘me.’

Manager Jack Charlton handed Gascoigne his first team debut as a substitute for George Reilly in a 1–0 win over Queens Park Rangers on 13 April 1985 at St James’ Park. Charlton later noted that Gascoigne’s first team appearances under him were too brief to suggest he was more than a useful talent.
